REVELATION

The phenomenon of Scripture is its Revelation—the act whereby God gives Truth, Truth about Himself and Truth about His acts. Truth is that which is revealed, not that which is thought initially by the mind of man. Truth originates in the vertical dimension not in the horizontal dimension; Truth is of God, not man!

Divine Revelation provides the explanation for the existence of Scripture and the Truth that is the essence of Scripture. If there had been no Revelation there would be no Scripture, for Scripture is contingent upon Revelation; Scripture is the product of Revelation. This is true of no other book. Scripture is “the cornerstone and the capstone of revelation” (Bavinck, Reasonable Faith, 96).
